It depends on age, physical fitness, and how comfortable they are outdoors. Dogs generally go out in the yards 6 sessions per day for up to 30 minutes per time as long as they are enjoying themselves and happy. Occaionally super active dogs stay outside longer if more exercise is needed. Some of our older borders appreciate less time outdoors. If boarders are social and enjoy playing with others they can play with other boarders and day campers. with owners permission. (depending on breed and temperaments)
At Shady Oaks Kennel, we refer to our last turnout of the night as “Last Call“ this is when we let the dogs out to potty for the last time at night. It depends on the time of year and the weather, but it is generally between 8 to 10 PM. It is proven to be highly effective, and we rarely have a mistake in the kennels overnight.
Rabies 1 year or 3 year, Bordetella (kennel cough) within 12 months, DHPP(distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza, parvo ) or DHLPP

We calculate our Kennel charges for boarding like a hotel. When you check your dog in for a stay, that is their first day. of billing. When you pick them up Monday through Saturday before noon you will not be charged for that day. Picking up between 3pm -5pm will result in another day. Sunday afternoon hours are 2 PM to 4 PM for pick up and drop off. Sunday is always a billable day.
Please bring your pet's food, medications, and any special toys or blankets to make them feel at home. We provide bedding and bowls.
our big kennels stay67-70, and our small kennels closer to 70 most of the time. we have two heat pumps that also have air condition. We also have a special ventilation system that helps with our air exchange. When the weather is nice outside, we open windows with screens and a big fan that brings in the fresh mountain air.
We do not mind visits as long as you, the owner are the one visiting . Visitation must within our hours and you must visit with your dog outside of the kennel as our lobby is busy. If you are sending someone else to visit your pet, we must have their name on file, a waiver, signed that we are not responsible while the pet is with the friend. And they must be prepared to take the pet out on a leash as our lobby is usually busy and crowded.
Of course we do if they know how to behave and are not one of the dangerous breeds. We do reserve the right to refuse to board human aggressive dogs or dogs that have major dog aggression. If you are unsure, if your dog could be boarded, we can do a temperament test.
No, boarding your dog while she is in season can be a disaster and be a lot of work and responsibility for the kennel employees. If your dog comes in heat while staying with us, we will charge an extra $10 per day while they are boarding.
No, we do not keep the following. Wolf hybrids, Anatolian shepherds. Cane Corso, Japanese tosa, Argentina dojo, mastiffs, unneutered pit and bully breeds.
yes we do! some of our best customers are pits and bullies. They must be neutered or spayed, non-aggressive, and new customers of these breeds must come in for a temperament test and interview.
